VisJot — Privacy Policy

Last updated: 4 October 2026

VisJot is a private video journal for recording entries in sign language. Your recordings stay on your device. They are never uploaded, never backed up to us, and never shared with anyone.

What stays on your device

Everything you create in VisJot. Your video entries, the notes you write, the titles and tags you add, and every recording you import. These are written to storage on your phone and read back from it. We cannot see them, we do not have copies, and no part of the app sends them anywhere.

What leaves your device, and only when you choose

There are exactly two things, and both are your decision.

1. Feedback you send us

If you use Send feedback, we receive what you chose to send:

The screen shows you these details before you send, and nothing is sent unless you press send. We use feedback only to understand and fix the problem you are telling us about.

2. Crash reports, if you turn them on

Your profile screen has a Share crash reports switch. It is off until you turn it on.

When it is on, and only then, we receive crash reports that your phone's own system prepares after the app stops unexpectedly: Apple's on an iPhone, Android's on an Android phone. These describe what the app was doing at the moment it failed, along with the app version, build number, device model and the version of iOS or Android. They contain no journal content: no video, no notes, no titles, no tags.

On Android, crash reports are also sent to Firebase Crashlytics, a crash-reporting service run by Google, which processes them on our behalf. Crashlytics reports include the same details, plus a random identifier created for the app on your phone so that repeated crashes can be counted together. That identifier is not your name, your Google account, your phone number or an advertising identifier, and it is deleted if you delete the app. Google's terms for this are at firebase.google.com/support/privacy.

Turning the switch off stops this immediately. Turning it on applies from that point forward and never sends reports about crashes that happened before you agreed.

What we never collect

Where it goes and who can see it

Feedback and crash reports are sent over an encrypted connection to storage we operate on Cloudflare. Access is limited to the developer of this app. We do not sell this information, we do not share it, and we do not use it for advertising or marketing.

Our server briefly records the network address a message arrives from, for up to two hours, solely to prevent abuse of the endpoint. It is not used to identify you and is not kept.

How long we keep it

Feedback is kept for as long as it is useful for fixing the issue it describes, and deleted when it is not. Crash reports are kept while the affected version is still in use.

Deleting what you have sent

Because there is no account, we have no way to look up "your" messages ourselves. If you want something you sent deleted, email us and include roughly when you sent it and what it was about, and we will find it and delete it.

Deleting the app removes every journal entry and recording from your device. Those were only ever on your device, so nothing of yours remains with us.

Children

VisJot is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them. Since the app has no accounts and collects nothing unless someone deliberately sends feedback, there is nothing collected in ordinary use at any age.

Changes to this policy

If what the app collects ever changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top is updated. Anything new that leaves your device will be something you are told about and can decline, as the two things above are.
